Vocabulary for Halloween

Check out these flashcards that are available in both color and B&W and are a great way to introduce your students to Halloween vocabulary words. Here are some ideas on how to use these flashcards:

  • Download the flashcards as a PDF and then print two copies to play memory match. Your students can practice the new vocabulary words while looking for matches.
  • Add these flashcards to your sensory bin this year and fill the sensory bin with all kinds of cute Dollar Tree items (e.g., skeletons, pumpkins, etc.).

  • If your kiddos love surprises, place all the cards in a “Surprise Bag” (which could be a plain paper lunch bag, cauldron, or treat container). Have the students predict which card they will pull, or have them describe the Halloween word they pick.
  • Have the students create a story using some of the cards so they can practice their narrative language skills.

This Halloween roll and cover worksheet is the perfect way to target any goal, so it can be used for both speech and language! Here how the this Halloween worksheet works:

  • Students say their targeted word or answer a question.
  • After the student rolls a die, they mark off the number of dots they rolled.
  • Your students can color the pictures. Alternatively, they can use dot markers to mark each picture.

These are some of my favorite worksheets about Halloween because they’re perfect for your middle schoolers or even high school students.

Students read short passages about classic Halloween characters (such as vampires, witches, and mummies), then answer comprehension questions.

Presently, targets in the Halloween reading comprehension passage include: context clues, critical thinking, figurative language, vocabulary, and finding the main idea.
