Bingo games can help young children develop several important skills, including:
Vocabulary Development:
Each holiday-themed Bingo game introduces specific vocabulary related to: Christmas, Winter, St. Patrick's Day, and Valentine's Day.
This helps in expanding a child's vocabulary, especially with seasonal words.
Turn Taking
Bingo teaches kids how to take turns. Each player has to wait for their turn to mark their board, which is an important part of social interaction and cooperative play.
Being a good sport
It's important to learn how to handle winning and losing. You can use the game to discuss and model appropriate reactions to both, like saying “Good game!” or congratulating the winner.
Emotional Regulation:
Bingo is a safe place for kids to experience the feelings that come with winning and losing. You can use these moments to teach them strategies for managing disappointment or excitement, like deep breathing or positive self-talk.
Categorization Skills:
Organizing the Bingo boards by winter holidays helps kids categorize words by themes.
Phonological Awareness:
By focusing on the beginning sounds, rhymes, or syllables of the words, you can add phonological awareness tasks to the game.
Following Rules
Following game rules is a key social skill. Bingo has simple rules that make it a great game for teaching the importance of following rules.
Customizable
Your winter bingo game can be easily modified to suit different skill levels or target specific therapy goals. For example, you can use pictures for younger children or more complex language tasks for older ones.
Listening Comprehension:
This is a fun-packed riddle game!
The calling cards have questions that kids have to listen to carefully, understand, and then answer.
For example, if you ask a question like “What do we wear on our hands in the winter to keep them warm?”, the child has to listen carefully, process the information, and understand the question.
This improves their listening comprehension skills.
This is so important for effective communication and academic success.

Can I Play Bingo for Free?
Yes! You definitely can with a free Canva for Education account.
After you have downloaded the free bingo cards, here’s how to set it up:
First, you'll need the following:
- A color printer
- A bingo caller (it could be you or a student!)
- A set of bingo cards (one for each player)
- Printed calling cards
- Bingo markers, bingo daubers, dot markers, or bingo chips
- You can also use mini marshmallows or erasers as game pieces.
To make the game more fun, you can put all the calling cards in a holiday-themed container (like a Christmas hat).
This will make it more exciting to draw a card.
You can also add some extra rules, like having them sing a song if you draw a certain card.
This will make the game more interactive and fun for everyone.
How to Play Winter Bingo
To set up the game, the caller will randomly select a calling card and read out the question. The question will be about a specific holiday, such as Christmas or Valentine’s Day. Your students will then race to find the answer on their winter bingo boards.
Players will mark off the pictures on their bingo cards as they're called. The first person to get five numbers in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) wins the game.
Here are some tips for playing these winter bingo games:
- Place the free printable winter bingo boards into sheet protectors.
- Then, use a dry erase marker to mark off pictures on the bingo card. This will make it easier to erase the numbers if you need to.
- Laminate the winter bingo boards and have the students use dry erase markers to mark off the pictures.
These are just a few ideas to get you started. You can be as creative as you want with your winter bingo game. Have fun and enjoy the winter season!
