In this blog post, I’ll be sharing five easy ways Canva can help with your Valentine's Day speech therapy.

1. Valentine's Day Canva Presentations

A fun way to incorporate Valentine's Day into your speech therapy sessions is by using Canva's free educational presentation game templates. You can make your Valentine's Day therapy sessions with your small groups so much fun by using some of these interactive presentation templates. Check out the links below!

💖 Here are just some of the Valentine's Presentations available in Canva

  • Trivia Questions about Valentine's Day  by Zuzel. This trivia presentation features 11 Valentine's Day vocabulary words.  On one slide, there will be a riddle clue to guess the word.  The next slide gives out the answer to everyone. A great way to target words related to Valentine's Day!
  • Valentine’s Day Trivia Game Presentation by Sir Aqui. This game features trivia questions about Valentine's Day and your students have to guess if the fact is a “Truth” or a “Bluff”.  You can easily customize the questions and answers for your students in Canva.
  • Valentine’s Day Never Have I Ever Game by Sir Aqui. Never have I ever played games in speech (said no SLP ever)!  You can have your students take turns reading out the prompts and learning more about their classmates.  This a great activity to add at the end of your therapy session for a brain break before sending them back to class.  This is also a great activity to work on social skills.

2. Valentine’s Day Speech Therapy Worksheets

You can find so many worksheets for free in Canva!  The best part is that you can change the questions depending to work on a variety of goals (for ex: If they are working on main idea, you can add a question about the main idea of the passage). There are so many resources in Canva that you can plan for your entire month of February!

Here are a just a few of the many templates that you can use in your Valentine's Day activities for speech therapy:

  • Describe a Teddy Bear by Zuzel. Use this worksheet as a graphic organizer to help students improve their describing skills.  There are two differentiated worksheets available in both color and b&w.
  • Valentine’s Day Wh- Questions by Zuzel. This is a fun activity for kindergarten students to 3rd grade.  This cut and paste worksheet targets answering wh- questions about Valentine's Day objects.
  • The History of Valentine's Day by Zuzel. Use reading comprehension to target your middle school students language goals.  There's writing, describing, answering questions and vocabulary all on one worksheet.

3. Speech Therapy Valentine’s Day Open Ended Game

This open-ended game is free and editable in Canva, making it an ideal tool for targeting any goal. It is a great way to engage students in a fun and interactive way, whether they are working on vocabulary, grammar, or conversation skills.

Which goals can be targeted with this game?

Any goal can be targeted because this is an open-ended game! Here are some ideas:

  • Repetitive drills! You can use this game to drill some basic concepts or speech sounds. This game is great for repetitive practice.
  • Practice conversational skills by having students take turns asking and answering questions. For example, one student might ask “What's your favorite Valentine's Day gift?” and the other student would respond with “My favorite Valentine's Day gift is a bouquet of flowers.”
  • Target your student's language skills!  Have the use Valentine vocabulary word or action words in a sentence.
  • Ask your younger students to describe a Valentine’s day object using the EET.
  • Use this game while discussing your favorite Valentine's Day books.

4. Valentine's Day Speech Therapy Bingo

How to play valentine bingo

  • Once you have created your Valentine bingo cards, you can print them out and start playing! Learn how with the detailed instructions included in the PDF.
  • Hand one Valentine bingo board to each player in your class.
  • Place the calling cards in a fun hat or party box for added fun.
  • Read out the riddle and have your students guess the correct answer. Then they can mark off the squares on their bingo boards, and the first player to get five squares in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) wins the game.
  • For durability, you can laminate the bingo boards or print them out, and place them in plastic sleeves.
